Plant Awareness
Did you know that the most common cause of poisoning in children is from plants? You should be aware of what types of plants you have in your home. You can call the B.C. Poison Control Centre (604-682-5050 or 1-800-567-8911) or search www.dpic.org.
The BC Poison control Centre provides telephone information 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Most poisonings can be treated at home but some require you to go the physician's office or hospital. If you are advised to go to the hospital take the plant with you so it can be identified.
Don't eat any part of an unknown plant or mushroom. Teach your children never to put leaves, stems, bark, seeds, nuts or berries from any plant into their mouths.
